The Shrovetide talk on Tuesday by Simon Brock (Chef from Satterthwaite) went down very well. It focused on the history which went back to 1000AD and was originally a three day religious event, prior to lent. Pancakes are not the only lasting tradition, football matches were played between villages which is a tradition that still continues in certain places in the country. Simon’s talk included anecdotes about “flipping pancakes” and some interesting recipes such as Jane Newman’s Oatmeal pancakes dating back to 1600’s. We are sure Simon would let you have the recipe if interested!
