September 2025:

Book Review. Jenny Hare told us about ‘Dissolution’ by C J Sansom (2003). A historical novel set in 1537 during the dissolution of the monasteries, Matthew Shardlake is sent to investigate a crime that becomes darker than he could have imagined. Jenny said that the book is very evocative of England and the situation of that time. Dissolution is one of a series of 6 books; to be thoroughly recommended.

Annie Shaw (who has been extremely busy of late) recommended 4 books:

“The Price of Money” by Rob Dix (a history of currency), “Taxtopia” – anonymous/Geraint Anderson (written by an accountant, showing the current problems and inequalities),

“How Westminster Works” by Ian Dunt (each chapter looking at a different part of government).

“Not the End of the World” by Hannah Ritchie (the climate change book we’ve all been waiting for – a sensible way to reach a net zero carbon footprint).

We have monthly meetings with interesting speakers; an active crafting group; and an active walking group. We love to go to the theatre together, host garden parties and try fun things together – like croquet and cartoon drawing. If you’d like to meet us, come along to one of our monthly meetings.
