Who Are We?

Who belongs to our WI?

We are fun, friendly women who live in the Cumbrian heartlands of Rusland, Satterthwaite, Haverthwaite and Ulverston. We belong to the Women’s Institute, an association with all kinds of history and traditions…

We are in the Cumbria-Westmorland WI Federation.

What is the WI?

The Rusland and District WI is a part of the Women’s Institute. The WI is the largest voluntary women’s organisation in the UK and it celebrated its centenary in 2015. It currently has almost 220,000 members in approximately 6,300 WIs.

The WI is non-political, non-sectarian and non-denominational, but definitely alive and kicking! The WI provides women with a chance to learn new things, meet new people, take part in a wide variety of activities and campaign on issues that matter to their communities.

And we never say no to cake…

We’re the Rusland with Bouth Women’s Institute

We have monthly meetings with interesting speakers; an active crafting group; and an active walking group. We love to go to the theatre together, host garden parties and try fun things together – like croquet and cartoon drawing. If you’d like to meet us, come along to one of our monthly meetings.
