Rusland with Bouth W.I. Founded 4th July 1944.

On the 16th July 2024 Rusland with Bouth W.I hosted a joyful and spirited party held at Rusland Reading Rooms.
Party gear included; de rigueur hats and bloomers, along with ‘best apron’ competition.
(Vintage, flowery, patterned, crossover, half, pockets, home made, cotton, crochet, hessian – anything goes. )
The evening started with us signing ‘Jerusalem’.
Much fun and laughter had by all with singing, games, quizzes and a raffle.
Wartime prizes were handed out, such as treasured bananas and oranges. There was even a Hershey’s chocolate bar which Judy Shaw won playing ‘Pass the Parcel‘.
Special thanks to Debbie Perry, for the flowers for the tables along with all the volunteers’ who helped decorate the room, bring along refreshments and tidying up at the end.
Thanks to Hillary Collins for sharing Women’s Institute Record Book. Below are the scanned pages of written record of very formal proceedings.

A very tasty menu, itemised in the programme for the evening. Delicious cake followed with Mrs Collins blowing out the candles and we toasted the WI.
Mrs Lister and Mrs Shaw presented ‘Albert and the Lion’, parts 1 & 2.
This was interspersed with 1940s music and Quiz set by Mrs Collins – questions based on the year 1944
Games followed: the balloon game and pass the parcel (3 parcels) with newspaper wrapping and prizes of bananas and a Hershey’s chocolate bar.
Gay Jarvis won the prize for the ‘best apron’. Raffle prizes were drawn.
All stood in a circle to sing ‘We’ll meet again’.
The table displayed some interesting recipe books, a wartime hot water bottle and shawl. A big thanks go to all those who worked hard to make the evening such a good one.
